What is Aging in Place?
Aging in Place is a type of design that is meant to allow people to stay in their homes as they retire and grow old. Otherwise, they would have to leave the comfort of their homes and move into retirement communities or assisted living. This allows for more sustainability and longer, healthier, and happier lives as people grow older. Recently, as the number of retirees increases the number of those that would rather stay home than move also increases. However, Aging in Place is also for redesigning living facilities that are already existing and designing new ones altogether that are meant to more closely resemble a nice hotel or resort.
WaterCrest at San Jose - Jacksonville, Florida
Studio SIX5 designed an assisted livings facility in Jacksonville, Florida that included luxuries like grand community dining, large balconies, wine bistro, concierge, spa and salon services, and outdoor living spaces. WaterCrest is designed to be classy and yet still feel homely for the residents. They designed a facility that can comfortably and safely house 90 residents in over 79,000+ square feet. This facility allows those that, even though they might prefer to stay in their own homes, a place to go for various reasons and live where they would not feel like they have just been sent to a home and forgotten.
