A Personal Value of Interior Design
Interior Design will always have a personal effect on you as the designer. As you design each project the way that project shaped you will follow through to future projects as well as life in general. You are also capable of controlling how it affects you based on the aspects of a space and how you function within that space. It is also a way for you to be yourself in whatever way that may be artistically. You can also help people achieve their dream of a functional space that they love through a project, and that may be something you love, helping people.
A Public Value of Interior Design
To the public, the value of Interior Design is a space that a normal person could walk into and not even notice the intricacies of the design happening as it is so efficient. For the public, there are specific things that have to be addressed when designing a space as they are basic human needs. The more common ones are, having adequate privacy, having a way to "stake your territory", having access to nature, and just having a well-designed space. In a grocery store, this might be the effective layout of the store from entry, to the actual shopping, to checkout. On the other hand, in a home, it might be walking into the home and you immediately have somewhere to store any outside gear, or in the kitchen where it seems as if nothing is ever out of reach and how easily accessible the outdoors are along with having an outdoor area if able.
A Business and Economic Value of Interior Design
In business, the value of Interior Design is crucial to both any clients coming into an office building as well as the workers in the building. To the clients, the design of the building is the first thing they see and is essentially their first impression of the company, so you would want that to be a good one. A confusing maze of hallways with no decor would be a bad thing for a client to encounter as it puts the company in the light of not caring if their building makes sense. For the employees having a well-designed space makes them more willing to work and be efficient. A confusing layout makes an employee not want to get up to go do something they need to do, whereas a layout that makes sense or is labeled correctly would encourage the employees to move about the office space. Even having communal areas where they are able to socialize and unwind throughout the day allows for more willingness to work. There is also a correlation between the economy and Interior Design, as the economy grows and salaries grow Interior Design grows as well. When people have more money to spend they are willing to spend it on increasing their quality of life by improving the spaces they inhabit.
